Talking Radical Radio

Talking Radical Radio aired weekly from February 2013 to February 2023. In its in-depth interviews, listeners got to hear grassroots activists and organizers engaged in a broad range of social change work in communities across so-called Canada talk about what they were doing, how they were doing it, and why they were doing it. It provided an opportunity to listen and to learn — about aspects of the world around us that are made visible through these activists’ struggles; about choices, successes, and failures in their organizing that could inform listeners’ own political work; and about possibilities for collaboration and solidarity.

When Scott began to talk with people about the possibility of winding the show down, a couple of them independently suggested that he write something based on the experience. So he did. It includes a detailed look at the work that went into making the show and some political reflections.

The show was broadcast on community radio stations across so-called Canada — usually a dozen or so at any given time, though it fluctuated — and was available on a range of online platforms. There is a chance that the show might return at a later time as a podcast-only project, and you can still find it via SoundCloud, iTunes, Stitcher, and TuneIn. Also, for those of you who are devoted users of YouTube, I posted episodes there for a couple of years. It was also available on venerable lefty news sites Rabble.ca (2013-2020) and The Media Co-op (2020-2023). Rabble chose not to preserve its archives of the show, so your best bet for looking through the back catalogue is on this site or on SoundCloud.

  32. Perry Bulwer says:

I find it curious that you are able to post this subject: “Remembering a radical experiment: The Vancouver Mental Patients Association of the 1970s” on the rabble website. They recently censored and banned me from that site because I wrote about my own personal struggles with PTSD and how I was mistreated and abandoned by the medical system. Rabble staff banned me and closed my account without any notice or explanation. They only offered an explanation after my 3rd email enquiry, simply telling me my account was closed and I’m banned from writing or commenting on the site because I wrote about my mental illness. I would expect that kind of brutal treatment from a right wing conservative site, but I was shocked and dismayed to be treated that way by so-called progressives, leftists and radicals, who I assumed were my allies. Disgusting.
